iDC doesn't throw anything off track

BPW Fahrzeugtechnik is one of the leading suppliers of chassis and suspension systems for towed vehicles in the car segment, and has developed an anti- snaking system for the range up to 2.8 tonnes. iDC "intelligent Drive Control" offers caravaners increased safety when towing their cara- vans.

Side wind, lane grooves or sudden evasive manoeuvres are some of the dreaded risks that face drivers when towing caravans. This is because the driving dynamics of a caravan mean it can start snaking and kangarooing, causing the car and caravan to swerve.

With iDC, BPW Fahrzeugtechnik has developed a patented safety system for single-axle and tandem-axle vehicles that sets new standard in terms of safety.

The highlight: The trailer is not controlled by the car, but directly by the iDC which is located directly on the trailer's overrun hitch. The vehicle combination is stabilised fully automatically.

How does iDC from BPW Fahrzeugtechnik work?

The functional principle of iDC is as ingenious as it is simple. A sensor attached to the axle perma- nently registers even the smallest acceleration at right angles (swinging motion) and sends signals to the central unit of the iDC, which is located in a sturdy housing on the overrun hitch. If any oscillations do not cancel themselves out automatically, the brake system of the trailer is activated by an electric motor in the central unit. The trailer returns to the right track automatically in a matter of seconds, as if it were running on imaginary rails. The driver notices almost nothing of the entire procedure.

The result: iDC detects dangerous situations at an early stage and automatically intervenes before things become critical.

Can iDC from BPW be retrofitted?

It goes without saying that iDC from BPW Fahrzeugtechnik can be retrofitted without difficulty. All the necessary components are supplied. We recommend having the installation performed in a specialist workshop. The functional status of the device is displayed after installation by a status display on the drawbar.

The solution: iDC from BPW Fahrzeugtechnik and the BPW ZAF-2 overrun hitch form the "Safety Brake Unit", an innovative product for the safety-conscious and responsible caravaner.
